MAMMOTH, Wyo. (AP) — Five individuals managed to escape from a hot, acidic pond in Yellowstone National Park after their SUV veered off the road and into an inactive geyser, according to park officials on Friday.

The passengers were able to exit the 105-degree Fahrenheit (41-degree Celsius) water on their own following the Thursday morning crash and were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, park spokesperson Morgan Warthin stated.

The road was closed for approximately two hours on Friday while the SUV was recovered from 9 feet of water, Warthin added.

The Semi-Centennial Geyser, inactive since a significant eruption in 1922, is situated near Roaring Mountain between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction.

The names of those involved have not been released, and the incident is still under investigation, officials said.
