Indian students are expressing frustration and concern over Canada's recent decision to end its fast-track Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa program, which had allowed quicker processing for study permits. Many students, particularly from India, are now worried about their academic futures. 

The SDS program, launched in 2018, had been popular among students from countries including India, China, and others. The abrupt termination of the program on November 8 has led to accusations of political interference, with students and counselors arguing that this decision negatively impacts students' dreams and ambitions.

Canada's Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) defended the move, stating that it aims to ensure fair access for all students and address vulnerabilities. As a result, future applicants will need to follow regular study permit procedures, which require additional documentation, such as a Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter. 

The decision comes amidst heightened diplomatic tensions between Canada and India, following allegations about India's involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, which India denies.
