Malaysia to Collaborate with Allies for UN Action After ICJs Palestine Ruling, Says Fahmi

Malaysia,Putrajaya: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that Malaysia will collaborate with nations supporting the Palestinian cause to seek action at international forums following the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) ruling on the Palestine occupation. The ICJ has declared Israel's settlement activities in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip illegal, ordering an immediate end and compensation for damages. The Malaysian Cabinet has welcomed this decision and is planning coordinated efforts with countries like Indonesia, and Brunei, and organizations such as the Gulf Cooperation Council and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to advocate for action at the United Nations.

The ICJ, the UN's Supreme Court, affirmed that Israel's occupation violates international law, specifically Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, and must cease its presence in Palestinian territories. Malaysia's Cabinet also expressed gratitude for the Beijing Declaration, facilitated by China, which aims to unify Palestinian factions including Fatah and Hamas. This declaration, agreed upon by 14 factions, marks a significant step toward Palestinian reconciliation and unity, which the Malaysian government hopes will lead to Palestine’s liberation.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a meeting with International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan, reiterated Malaysia's demand for Israel's accountability for potential war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, including abuses against Palestinians and children. This stance underlines Malaysia's commitment to seeking justice and international support for the Palestinian cause.
