Paris Metro Ticket Prices to Rise for Tourists in 2024, Simplified Fares

France, Paris: Tourists visiting Paris will face higher public transport fares starting early next year, as the Greater Paris Regional Transport Authority announced Wednesday, according to the German news agency (dpa).

The authority is planning to revamp its fare structure, resulting in increased prices for certain tickets commonly used by tourists.

In contrast, residents of the suburbs will benefit from significantly cheaper fares. The goal, according to Valarie Pacresse, president of the Greater Paris le-de-France region’s transport authority, is to encourage suburban residents to use public transport instead of cars.

Pacresse explained in an interview with 'Le Parisian' that the only group affected by the price hikes will be tourists, as tickets to the airport and the Paris Visit pass will see price increases.

A new standard fare of €13 (US$14.46) will be introduced for transfers between airports and the city center by either bus or Metro, up from the current cheapest fare of €10.30.

Day or multi-day tickets for visitors will only be available for Greater Paris, without a cheaper city-only option. Previously, a one-day city ticket cost €13.95, but the new day ticket, priced at €29.90, will allow travel across the entire Greater Paris area, including airports.

Additionally, the cost of a single ticket will rise from €2.15 to €2.50, and it will now include travel to the suburbs, making visits to attractions like the Palace of Versailles more accessible.
