While Bill Gates has not openly supported Kamala Harris, he reportedly contributed $50 million to a nonprofit organization backing her presidential campaign, as reported by the New York Times. This donation was made to Future Forward, the primary fundraising group assisting the vice president in her election efforts.

Despite this significant contribution, Gates has not issued a public endorsement for Harris. The report further indicated that the Microsoft co-founder has privately expressed his “concern” to friends and associates this year regarding the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the presidency.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Gates' philanthropic organization, has apprehensions about Trump's potential election due to fears of cuts to family planning and global health initiatives, the report mentioned. Nonetheless, Gates has stated that he is willing to collaborate with either candidate.

‘This election is different’

In response to the report, Gates emphasized his commitment to bipartisanship, asserting that "this election is different." He noted, "I support candidates who show a clear dedication to enhancing healthcare, alleviating poverty, and combating climate change both in the U.S. and globally."

"I have a longstanding history of collaborating with leaders from various political backgrounds, but this election is unique, carrying unprecedented importance for Americans and the most vulnerable populations worldwide," he added.

Following Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race and endorsement of Harris, Gates expressed optimism about "someone younger, who can consider issues like AI" during an interview with FRANCE 24.

Melinda French Gates, the ex-wife of Bill Gates, has shown her support for Kamala Harris, highlighting the importance of having a leader who will advocate for reproductive rights. In a post she made on X in July, she expressed her endorsement, stating, “I am supporting Vice President Kamala Harris because she is that leader. She possesses an inspiring vision for America and the experience necessary to achieve it. The issues she focuses on resonate with the electorate. While courts and state legislatures work to impose restrictions, she has been actively campaigning across the country to uphold reproductive rights. Additionally, she has spearheaded initiatives to combat racial inequalities in maternal healthcare and is pushing for more affordable solutions regarding paid leave, childcare, and elder care for families.”
