California, USA: Vishnu Hari, an Indian American tech entrepreneur, was severely assaulted in San Francisco’s Mission District on January 18. The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) reported that the attack occurred after an altercation with another individual, which escalated into a physical confrontation. Hari, co-founder of the 3D simulation engine company Ego, suffered head injuries after being struck by a metal pipe, leaving him bleeding and in need of medical attention.
The SFPD noted that despite efforts, the suspect has not been apprehended yet. Hari was rushed to a local hospital for treatment following the attack. The police have confirmed that they are continuing their investigation into the violent assault.
On February 1, Hari shared his experience on social media, revealing the extent of his injuries and expressing frustration with the authorities' response. "I was recently released from the ICU after suffering a traumatic brain injury when a man hit me on the back of my head with a metal pipe in the Mission District, completely unprovoked," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Hari disclosed that he now faces partial blindness in his right eye and hearing impairment in his left ear, with a recovery process expected to take several months. He clarified that although his phone and wallet were not taken, his jewelry was forcefully removed during the attack.
In his post, Hari also voiced his dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in the case, stating, "I’m confused as to why San Francisco institutions are not taking this seriously." He mentioned that he has "no memory of the event" and had to rely on information from friends who spoke to the police.
Hari further claimed that the suspect is familiar to law enforcement, asserting that the individual has previously committed similar acts. "This man is known to the police because he’s attacked others before. From what I know, they won’t press charges or prosecute him due to the political climate in SF," he wrote.
The case remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet. The SFPD has emphasized its commitment to public safety and ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are held accountable. "Violent crime will not be tolerated in San Francisco," the police stated. "We are dedicating resources to solving this case and will work with the District Attorney’s Office once an arrest is made."
