Indian Paralympic Success: Record Contingent, PM Modis Backing France, Paris: India's Paralympic contingent in Paris has made headlines by securing 15 medals, with more expected, marking a significant achievement following India's success at the Olympics. This marks the third consecutive instance where India's Paralympians have outperformed their Olympic counterparts. The Narendra Modi government has shown strong support, sending the largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes, including 34 women, to the Paralympics. The government has provided extensive facilities, training, and financial backing, including over Rs 96 crore for the Paralympic preparations, reflecting its commitment to empowering para-athletes.

India’s success at the Paris Paralympics includes multiple historic wins. Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic gold medals in air rifle shooting, while Preeti Pal became the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win two medals at the Paralympics. The contingent also featured debutants like 44-year-old shooter Sriharsha Devareddy and 17-year-old armless archer Sheetal Devi, showcasing a mix of experience and fresh talent. Prime Minister Modi has personally congratulated each medal winner, highlighting the nation's pride in their achievements.
India’s Paralympians have consistently outperformed their Olympic counterparts, with 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics and 111 medals at the 2022 Asian Para Games. The Paris Paralympics continue this trend, with India already surpassing the six medals won by the Indian Olympic team in Paris.
