NASA first private lander to reach the surface of the Moon

Cape Canaveral: America's private lander, Odysseus Lander, successfully touched down on the moon last Thursday. Notably, this marks NASA's first lunar mission since the Apollo mission in 1972. This recent launch signifies the inaugural Chandra Mandal Yatra undertaken by a private company. Intuitive Machines launched a rocket with the Odysseus Lander just last week.

Despite weak signals detected from the Odysseus Lander, Intuitive Machines confirmed its landing on the lunar surface. However, specific details about its current location remain undisclosed. The live webcast concluded immediately after the announcement of the moon landing. Tim Crain, the project director, stated that they are currently analyzing how to enhance the weak signals emanating from the lander.

This experiment marks America's return to the moon after nearly 50 years, and Intuitive Machines has made history as the first private company to successfully reach the lunar surface. While Astrobotic took steps in the same direction last month, it encountered failure. NASA provided Intuitive Machines with $118 million in funding for the Odysseus mission, aligning with the commercialization of Rhodasi Yatras.

Intuitive Machines had set its sights on landing the lander within 300 km of the South Pole, aiming to choose a suitable area near the crater known as 'Malapert A' for the landing. The Odysseus Lander is designed to operate for a week.
