Kuwait: Mohammad Abdul Sohail, a 34-year-old from Telangana, has been handed a life sentence in Kuwait on accusations related to drug trafficking, which his wife, Anwari Begum, claims are entirely false. She has urgently appealed to India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, for assistance.
Sohail, originally from Bodhan in Nizamabad district, worked as a plumber for Gulf Engineering Company, stationed at Adan Hospital in Kuwait. He was arrested on December 5, 2021, after being accused of involvement in a drug-related incident.
According to Anwari Begum, the arrest occurred due to a misunderstanding. Sohail, after working long hours, stopped for lunch at a hotel, where a stranger gave him a suspicious package. Shortly thereafter, police arrived and took him into custody.

Begum, who is left to care for their two young children on her own, emphasized that the charges against her husband were completely fabricated. She also shared the family’s financial struggles, as they are unable to afford legal representation or cover basic living expenses.
The emotional toll on their children has been severe, with Sohail continuing to contact home every week, insisting on his innocence and expressing his distress over the wrongful accusations.
Begum has made a heartfelt plea to Dr. Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, urging them to intervene, offer legal support, and help secure her husband’s release and safe return to India.
