Tropical Storm Enteng Hits Philippines: 2 Dead, Flights Canceled

Philippines, Manila: Tropical Storm Enteng, also known internationally as Yagi, has resulted in two fatalities in the Philippines and caused numerous flight cancellations, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday.

The NDRRMC is in the process of verifying reports, with 14 families from three villages reported to be affected by the severe weather. Additionally, the storm led to the collapse of two structures and triggered a landslide due to heavy rains.

The storm has strengthened the southwestern monsoon, prompting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to issue early warnings about work and school closures for Tuesday. The Manila-based Inquirer reported that Marcos instructed officials to provide updates as soon as possible, ideally before bedtime, to inform the public about any cancellations for the following day.

Maritime operations have been heavily disrupted, with 739 passengers stranded at various ports—679 in Bicol and 60 in Calabarzon. A total of 22 ships, four motorized banca boats, and 282 rolling cargo vessels were unable to set sail due to the dangerous conditions.
