Muscat, Oman: Sunderesh Heragu, a distinguished regents professor and John Hendrix chair at Oklahoma State University’s School of Industrial Engineering and Management, has been selected for the prestigious Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Global Engineering Education Award. This honor recognizes his exceptional contributions to global engineering education.

The award will be presented on December 3, 2024, during the IEOM Oman Conference Awards Ceremony in Muscat, Oman. Alongside receiving the accolade, Heragu will deliver a keynote address at the 2nd GCC International Conference on IEOM, scheduled from December 1-3, 2024. His speech will explore supply chain challenges and opportunities in the post-pandemic world, with a focus on automation, climate change, and migration.

“I am deeply humbled to receive this global recognition from a society I have long admired,” said Heragu. “My work on vital engineering topics has reached a global audience through my books, articles, talks, and educational tools, thanks to the contributions of my students and collaborators. This award is a testament to their support and efforts.”

Heragu’s illustrious career includes academic roles at Oklahoma State University, the University of Louisville, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has also held visiting positions at institutions such as the University of Twente and IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center. With over 250 published works and the 5th edition of Facilities Design to his credit, Heragu has made a significant impact in his field.

Additionally, he has led research projects valued at more than $27 million, funded by major organizations like the Department of Homeland Security and the National Science Foundation. A Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), Heragu’s accolades include the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award.

The IEOM Society International, a nonprofit organization with 250 chapters across 55 countries, promotes industrial engineering and hosts global conferences to advance the field.
