Washington: The recently released 2023 annual progress report by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has revealed interesting facts. In 2023, 59,100 people from India have acquired US citizenship. About 8.7 lakh foreign nationals acquired US citizenship in fiscal year 2023 (as of September 30, 2023). Of these, 1.1 lakh were Mexicans (12.7%), and 59,100 were Indians (6.7%).

Of the new enrollees, 44,800 (5.1 percent) were from the Philippines, and 35,200 (4 percent) were from the Dominican Republic. To obtain citizenship, one must meet the qualifications specified in the Immigration and Nationality Act. Generally, a person must live there for at least 5 years to get US citizenship.
