Satnam Singh Chahal, founder of the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), expressed deep concern over the escalating diplomatic tension between India and Canada and its serious impact on the Sikh community worldwide. Chahal highlighted how the fallout, triggered by the murder of Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, has worsened challenges related to identity, safety, and political representation for the Sikh diaspora in Western countries, particularly in Canada and the US. 

He emphasized the growing divide within the Sikh community, with some viewing Canada's stance as a defense of human rights, while others see it as an affront to India’s sovereignty. This divide is causing rifts within families and social circles, further exacerbated by a lack of outreach from the Indian government. The tensions have also led to increased discrimination and racism against young Sikhs in North America. 

Chahal called on the governments of India, Canada, and the US to protect minority communities and urged Sikhs to engage politically to ensure their voices are heard in addressing these challenges.
