Why Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Choose to Buy a Home Near Princess Eugenie?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly purchased a new home in Portugal, situated near the property of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club. This move has prompted royal expert Angela Levin to question the Sussexes' intentions, suggesting that their proximity to Eugenie may be an effort to maintain royal appearances. Levin speculated that their relocation could allow them to travel around Europe while still projecting an image of royalty.

The purchase of a property in Portugal could also grant Harry and Meghan a Golden Visa, providing them with visa-free access to the EU's Schengen area. This move is particularly significant for Meghan, who had previously abandoned her pursuit of British citizenship after stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Despite their ongoing rift with the royal family, the couple reportedly maintains a close relationship with Eugenie and Jack, which will facilitate visits to Europe while still allowing them to retain their primary residence in Montecito, California.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams noted that this acquisition gives Harry and Meghan a foothold in the EU and a convenient base near Britain, potentially easing Harry's visits to King Charles. However, the feasibility of such visits remains uncertain.
