A tourist boat capsized in the Bali Strait, Indonesia, leaving 65 people missing. The vessel, which departed from Java, had 53 passengers and 12 crew members on board when it sank around 11:20 pm on Wednesday.
The Surabaya Search and Rescue Agency reported that four people were safely rescued by Thursday morning.
Maritime accidents are frequent in Indonesia, a vast archipelago with over 17,000 islands, largely due to inadequate safety protocols and aging vessels.
In a similar incident in March, a boat capsized off Bali’s coast, killing an Australian woman. Rescue operations are ongoing.
