In the Philippines, a tragic incident occurred as 15 individuals lost their lives when a truck plunged into a deep ravine in the central part of the country on Wednesday. Michael Kabugasan, a rescue officer from Mabine Municipality, reported that the vehicle was en route to the cattle market in Negros Island. Eyewitnesses recounted that the lorry driver lost control while negotiating a turn, leading to the fatal plunge into the deep ditch. Road accidents are unfortunately common in the hilly vicinity near Mabine. Out of the 17 people on board, only the driver and one passenger survived.
The driver was discovered amidst the wreckage at the bottom of the ravine, covered in motor oil, with the crash site located at least 50 meters (164 feet) below the road. Tragically, fatal road accidents are a prevalent occurrence in the Philippines, where drivers frequently disregard traffic regulations, and vehicles are inadequately maintained. Overloading and surpassing weight limits are also pervasive issues.
In Negros Oriental province, the incident unfolded on Wednesday around 1:30 pm local time when a truck veered off a cliff, resulting in casualties and numerous severe injuries. Videos circulating on social media depicted lifeless bodies strewn across the accident site. Prompt responses from the police and rescue teams aimed to aid the victims and investigate the root cause of the tragic accident.
