Chicago, USA: Compatibility for stem cell donations depends on ethnicity-specific HLA markers, making it essential for Indian donors to contribute in order to assist others within their community.
The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has rolled out its inaugural nationwide stem cell donation initiative aimed at increasing the pool of potential matches for Indian American individuals diagnosed with blood cancers.
“Stem cell transplants play a critical role in treating blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma,” stated AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty. “I deeply appreciate the dedication of our chapter leaders, members, and volunteers nationwide who are leading this important mission.”
