At Least 9 Dead, 100+ Injured In Nepal Parliament Protests

At least nine killed and over 100 were injured after Gen Z protesters stormed Nepal’s Parliament in New Baneshwor, breaking police barricades.

Security forces activated water cannons and tear gas while implementing a midday curfew starting at 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in several critical zones.

Demonstrations broke out in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, and Biratnagar, with citizens voicing anger over government corruption and the recent social media restrictions.

Some protesters even attempted to scale police stations before law enforcement regained control.

The government had recently blocked platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube after these services failed to register with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology by the August 28 deadline.

PM KP Sharma Oli stated his party opposes illegal acts undermining national sovereignty, emphasizing that compliance with the law is more important than business interests.
