A Liberian-flagged cargo ship, W-Sapphire, caught fire Monday night near Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Flames and smoke were seen on the Patapsco River, but the fire, caused by an under-deck blaze, was contained within hours.
All 23 crew members are safe. Firefighters, port officials, and the Coast Guard responded quickly. Residents reported loud booms and vibrations, initially mistaken for thunder.
The incident raised concerns due to its proximity to the collapsed Key Bridge, but authorities confirmed no damage to the bridge, port, or environment.
