Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: Canada has begun experimenting with digital visas as part of its efforts to upgrade immigration processes and offer faster, safer and more convenient travel options.
The trial has been introduced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with the goal of improving how visa services are delivered. This modern system is expected to simplify travel procedures for visitors heading to Canada.
As part of the pilot rollout, a selected group of Moroccan travellers—whose visas were previously approved—have been invited to participate. They will help the government assess the system’s security features, accessibility, ease of use and overall reliability.
The project will also examine how well digital visas work with external partners, including airlines. By shifting to a digital format, Canada aims to eliminate the need for applicants to send their passports for a physical visa sticker, strengthen verification methods, and ensure that travellers share only the necessary information.
