Dallas, Texas, USA: A horrifying incident unfolded in Dallas, Texas, when a 50-year-old Indian-origin man, Chandramouli Nagamallaiah, was fatally assaulted in front of his wife and son following a violent altercation at a local motel, authorities confirmed.
The tragedy occurred on the morning of September 10 at the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard, located east of downtown Dallas. Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, who also worked at the motel. He has been arrested and charged with a capital offense.
According to the arrest affidavit, the conflict began over the use of a damaged washing machine. Reports indicate that Nagamallaiah told Cobos-Martinez and a female coworker not to use the machine while they were cleaning a room. The suspect allegedly became angry because the message had been relayed through the woman, who translated for him, instead of being addressed directly.
Video footage referenced in the affidavit shows Cobos-Martinez leaving the room, pulling out a machete, and then attacking Nagamallaiah.
A fellow motel employee who witnessed the incident told police, “He chased him from room 108 all the way to the office. The victim was trying to reach the office to alert his family.” As Nagamallaiah screamed and ran toward the office, his wife and son tried desperately to stop the assault. However, police said Cobos-Martinez shoved them aside and continued the attack.
Investigators stated that the suspect seized the victim’s cell phone and key card, then resumed the assault until the victim was tragically slain. The affidavit further noted that Cobos-Martinez desecrated the remains before discarding evidence in a dumpster. Photos from the scene showed police tape surrounding the motel and a partition placed near the victim’s body.
When Dallas Fire-Rescue teams arrived, they saw Cobos-Martinez covered in blood and still carrying the machete. They tracked him until officers reached the scene and took him into custody.
Police confirmed that Cobos-Martinez admitted to the crime during questioning. He is currently being held at Dallas County Jail on a capital offense charge, and authorities have also placed an immigration hold on him.
Records show that the suspect has a criminal past, including arrests for auto theft in Florida as well as charges of assault and child misconduct in Houston, Texas.
