Dhaka Dengue Crisis: 12 Lives Lost Reported In One Day

Dhaka is grappling with a severe dengue outbreak, as authorities report a record 12 fatalities in just one day.

Health officials warn that prolonged monsoon conditions and growing mosquito populations are worsening the situation.

Early detection, timely treatment, and removal of stagnant water remain crucial to controlling the disease.

In the past 24 hours, 700 new cases were reported in Dhaka. This year, 179 fatalities and 42,000 infections have been recorded nationwide, with many children affected. Patients typically experience high fever, rash, and severe dehydration.

In 2023, dengue resulted in approximately 2,000 fatalities and over 321,000 infections in Bangladesh.

The virus is common in tropical regions, with symptoms appearing 4–10 days after a mosquito bite. Preventing mosquito bites remains the most effective defense.
