The shooter was identified as Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old son of Leon County Sheriff's Deputy Jessica Ikner. Authorities confirmed that Phoenix used a former service weapon belonging to his mother in the incident. The injured individuals were taken to the hospital, and Phoenix Ikner was taken into police custody.

Reports of an active shooter near the Student Union prompted the university to issue an alert. Students, faculty, and staff were advised to leave the campus and seek shelter in safe locations. The shooting started around 11:50 AM local time, and police quickly responded to contain the situation. Following the incident, the campus was placed on lockdown, and classes, sports events, and other scheduled activities for Thursday were canceled.The authorities reported the incident to President Trump, who expressed deep concern, calling it a tragic and terrifying event.
