Fremont, California, USA: In his new role, Salwan said he plans to use the national platform to learn from other cities and identify new opportunities that could strengthen Fremont’s municipal offerings.
“I want to use this role to learn what other cities are doing well, pursue new partnerships and funding opportunities, and bring those ideas back home,” Salwan said in a post on X.
Salwan also highlighted Fremont’s existing parks, trails, open spaces and natural surroundings, saying the city has “so much to be proud of.”
He said he wants to further develop Fremont as a destination for both residents and visitors while creating spaces that support local businesses and showcase the community’s unique character.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors is a nonpartisan organization representing cities with populations of 30,000 or more. It provides a forum for municipal leaders to share best practices and engage in discussions that can influence federal policy.
Salwan’s appointment gives Fremont a role in the national conversation surrounding urban parks, recreation and related infrastructure.
“When Fremont has a seat at the table, we have an opportunity to bring something back home,” Salwan added, underscoring his focus on applying national ideas and partnerships to local development.
Salwan has served in various capacities in Fremont city government for more than 18 years, including as a councilmember and vice mayor. He assumed the office of mayor in December 2024.
