From Cabbie to Legend: How YouTube Yes Theory Helped Reg Escape Lifelong Debt

London, UK:  About two years ago, the creators behind Yes Theory met Reg, a Sikh cab driver, who opened up about the heavy debt he had accumulated while caring for a loved one.

Reg, an Indian-origin Sikh taxi driver based in the UK, has recently received an outpouring of support from a worldwide YouTube audience after Yes Theory, the popular content creators, launched a fundraising campaign to help him overcome years of financial struggle.

The fundraiser, which was started on GoFundMe just last week, quickly exceeded its initial target of £113,000 (around $127,130) within the first 24 hours. As of now, the total amount raised has surpassed £188,000 (approximately $212,700).

This initiative was inspired by Yes Theory’s reunion with Reg, nearly two years after their first encounter during one of their viral challenges. Their original 2023 video, titled "I Paid a Taxi $10,000 to See How Far it Takes Me!", featured Reg as the cheerful and eager cab driver who accepted the unusual journey without hesitation.

The video resonated widely, becoming a favorite among fans not just because of the challenge’s novelty but due to Reg’s genuine warmth, sharp humor, and heartfelt insights—moments captured on what the creators called the "Reg Cam."

Founded in 2015, Yes Theory has built a following of 9.5 million subscribers with their focus on spontaneous, authentic storytelling that emphasizes human connection. The core team—Ammar, Thomas, Derin, and Matt—live by their mantra to "seek discomfort" and forge bonds through shared experiences.

During their adventures, they took Reg on an unforgettable trip across the United States, which included a yacht excursion in Miami, a cowboy-themed Hollywood experience in Austin, and a helicopter ride over New York City.

It was on this trip that Reg opened up about the personal sacrifices he had made, leaving his job to become a full-time caregiver for his sick mother. Though he has no regrets about that decision, it left him in severe financial distress.

Over time, Reg had managed to pay off £90,000 (about $114,000) on a loan originally taken for £70,000 ($89,000), but due to accumulating interest, he still owed £113,000 (approximately $143,000). Moved by his story, Yes Theory gifted him $10,000 initially, but recognized that more assistance was necessary.

To help ease his burden, they launched the GoFundMe campaign under the hashtag #FreeReg, setting the fundraising goal at £113,000 ($127,130). After reaching this goal within a day, they raised the target to £150,000, aiming to provide Reg with more financial relief and reduce the pressure of his demanding seven-day workweeks. "Thank you to EVERYONE who made this possible," Yes Theory posted. "We’ve now increased the goal to 150,000 pounds to give Reg some breathing room."

Donors expressed heartfelt appreciation for Reg, with messages like, "We all face hardships, but Reg, you truly deserve this support," and "Go live your best life, King Reg!"
