India Strikes Terrorist Camps in Pakistan, Tensions Escalate

India's military launched missile strikes early Wednesday on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting the headquarters of banned groups Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The strikes follow the deadly Pahalgam attack on April 22, where 26 people were killed. Pakistan reported at least eight fatalities and retaliated, escalating tensions.

The Indian Defence Ministry confirmed "precision" strikes on terror infrastructure, emphasizing accountability for those behind the Pahalgam attack. India clarified that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted. Meanwhile, three civilians died due to artillery fire from Pakistan's army along the Line of Control.

Global Reactions:

  1. US: President Trump called the escalation a "shame" and hoped for a swift end, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged peace talks.
  2. China:  urged both nations to show restraint, calling for peace and stability.
  3. Israel:  Backed India’s right to self-defense and condemned terrorism.
  4. UN: Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern and called for maximum restraint.
  5. UAE: Encouraged both nations to de-escalate and pursue peaceful resolutions.

The strikes targeted JeM's Bahawalpur base and LeT’s Muridke headquarters, with India stressing its actions were non-escalatory and focused on terror infrastructure.
