Sydney, New South Wales, Australia: Harjas Singh smashed a remarkable 314 runs in a 50-over game, a performance that drew instant comparisons with Rohit Sharma’s ODI record of 264 runs.
Could the next standout talent in Australian cricket be of Indian descent? At just 20 years old, Harjas Singh has captured national attention with a record-breaking innings that is turning heads across the cricketing world.
Born in Sydney to parents who moved from Chandigarh in 2000, Singh scored 314 runs from 141 balls while representing Western Suburbs against Sydney Cricket Club at Pattern Park. His innings included an astonishing 35 sixes, marking it as the highest score in Australian first-grade limited-overs cricket.
Putting it in perspective:
The highest individual score in official One Day Internationals is 264 by former Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Only 12 players have managed to score double centuries in ODIs.
Glen Maxwell is the sole Australian among them.
Rohit Sharma has achieved this milestone three times, while Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill are also double-hundred scorers.
Singh’s 314-run effort ranks him third in the all-time records of New South Wales Premier first-grade cricket, behind Victor Trumper’s 335 in 1903 and Phil Jaques’ 321 in 2007—both achieved in longer formats.
Earlier this year, Harjas had already showcased his talent during the 2024 U-19 World Cup final in South Africa, scoring a top 55 off 64 balls against India and helping Australia post a total of 253.
Speaking to the media, Singh described his recent innings as “the cleanest ball-striking I’ve ever produced, by far.”
This exceptional performance has strengthened his case for national recognition, with selectors now considering him a strong long-term prospect in limited-overs cricket.
