Nearly 400 people have been arrested during ongoing protests in Los Angeles against federal immigration raids and President Trump’s military deployment. Tensions escalated after Trump sent over 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines, more than those currently deployed in Iraq and Syria.
Clashes erupted near City Hall, where police in riot gear used force, including wooden rods and crowd-control projectiles, injuring some protesters. Despite a citywide curfew, officers continued to disperse crowds near federal buildings.
Protesters held signs, lit fireworks, and some even held dance parties amid the chaos. Serious charges, including assault on officers and possession of weapons, have been reported.
Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing the troop deployment violated state sovereignty. The White House defended the move as a lawful measure to protect federal personnel and facilities.
