On July 14, the Supreme Court will review an urgent plea calling for immediate government action to protect Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala, who is scheduled to be executed scheduled for execution in Yemen on July 16 after being found guilty of murder, the alleged murder of a Yemeni national.
The court asked the petitioner group to inform the Attorney General’s office of possible diplomatic intervention.
Nimisha, jailed in 2017 after a failed attempt to sedate her abusive business partner, was sentenced to death in 2020. Her appeals were rejected.
Her family in India is struggling, and the plea urges urgent diplomatic action to pay ‘blood money’ and halt the execution.
