USA-Panama: Panama has announced that it is accommodating illegal migrants, including Indians and people from various other countries, who are being deported from the USA. These migrants have been housed in a hotel, but officials noted that about 40% of them are unwilling to return to their home countries.
Panama’s Minister, Franca Abrego, stated that around 300 migrants have arrived in the country. They belong to India, Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and several other nations. She clarified that the entire cost of this process is being covered by the USA. Meanwhile, images showing deported migrants being confined in a hotel went viral on social media, but Abrego denied these claims, asserting that the hotel is under police supervision.
Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio toured Latin America and signed agreements with Guatemala and Panama regarding migrant deportations. Last week, 119 migrants from China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan were deported to Panama, but the US has yet to send deportees to Guatemala. Similar agreements were also made with Costa Rica, where around 200 illegal migrants from India and other Asian countries have arrived. Meanwhile, in a strict crackdown by former US President Donald Trump, 112 Indians were deported on a military plane and arrived in Amritsar on Sunday night. This was the third such flight after two earlier deportations.
