Prime Minister Modi has canceled his two-day Saudi Arabia visit in the middle of the trip due to a terrorist attack in Kashmir. He departed from Jeddah and reached Delhi at 5 AM. An urgent meeting with central ministers and senior army officials will be held today. They will discuss measures to tackle terrorism. Reports indicate that 26 people died in the attack, including two foreign nationals. Terrorists have infiltrated Jammu and Kashmir, and in Anantnag district, they targeted tourists. In the Baisaran region, known as "mini Switzerland," tourists were attacked brutally. 26 tourists were killed, and another 20 are in critical condition. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called it the biggest terrorist incident in recent times.
Around 3 PM yesterday, nearly 40 tourists in the Baisaran region were surrounded by terrorists who came from a nearby forest area. The terrorists then opened fire indiscriminately. Many fell dead on the spot, while several others were severely injured. The area was filled with bodies lying in pools of blood, creating a terrifying atmosphere. Due to the remote location, which can only be accessed by foot or on horseback, it was difficult to evacuate the victims.
As soon as the sound of gunfire was heard, security forces immediately rushed to the site. The injured were airlifted to a hospital. Local people, using horses, managed to take some victims to safety. The condition of several injured is reportedly critical. Home Minister Amit Shah, under instructions from Modi, immediately arrived in Kashmir. He met with senior security officials to gather details and emphasized providing better medical treatment to the injured. A high-level meeting was conducted as soon as he arrived. Prime Minister Modi condemned the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack, tweeting that those responsible will not be spared. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Modi also assured that assistance would be provided to the victims and vowed to bring those behind this heinous act to justice.
