Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Thailand on Thursday for a two-day visit, during which he will participate in various events. He is scheduled to meet Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to discuss bilateral relations. Additionally, he will attend the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) summit, where an agreement on strengthening maritime cooperation is expected to be signed. Discussions will also focus on enhancing collaboration among BIMSTEC member countries.
The summit will be attended by Thai PM Srettha Thavisin, Nepal's Prime Minister K.P. Oli, Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Bangladesh's interim government head Muhammad Yunus, and Sri Lanka's PM Harini Amarasuriya. This marks the first in-person BIMSTEC summit since the fourth one held in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2018. The previous summit, conducted in March 2022, was held virtually in Colombo.Indian Ambassador to Thailand, Nagesh Singh, shared insights on Modi’s visit, highlighting the excitement and enthusiasm it has generated in Thailand. He emphasized that Modi’s presence would further strengthen India's ties with Thailand and the BIMSTEC nations.
