Russia has criticized the US for imposing "illegal trade pressure" on India after President Trump threatened higher tariffs over India's continued imports of Russian oil. The Kremlin called the US approach coercive and a breach of international norms.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov defended India's right to choose its trade partners, saying sovereign nations shouldn't be forced to cut ties with Russia.

Trump accused India of profiting from discounted Russian oil while ignoring the Ukraine war, warning of increased tariffs and new sanctions on countries trading with Russia unless it ends the 3.5-year conflict.

India dismissed Trump’s allegations as “baseless and unwarranted,” reaffirming its commitment to protecting national interests and maintaining full control over its economic decisions.
