Stanfords Dr. Nirav Shah Joins Ohio Health-Tech Firm AssureCare

Cincinnati, Ohio, USA:  AssureCare, a healthcare technology company headquartered in Ohio, has announced the appointment of Dr. Nirav R. Shah as a strategic advisor.

Dr. Shah, a senior scholar at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, is widely recognized for his expertise in healthcare leadership. His experience spans clinical operations, digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), biosecurity, health insurance, and regulatory oversight in both public and private healthcare sectors.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Yousuf Ahmad, CEO of AssureCare, said:

He further emphasized that Shah’s role will be pivotal in strengthening AssureCare’s platform, which aims to integrate fragmented healthcare by connecting providers, payers, and pharmacies. According to Dr. Ahmad, Shah’s expertise will help the company incorporate responsible AI, safety, and equity into all aspects of its technology, ultimately driving meaningful impact.

At Stanford, Dr. Shah focuses on teaching and researching digital health technologies and generative AI, exploring how they can improve healthcare quality, cut costs, and deliver greater value for health systems in the U.S. and worldwide.

Speaking about his new role, Dr. Shah expressed his excitement:

Dr. Shah is a graduate of Harvard, Yale, and UCLA, and previously served as the New York State Health Commissioner. During his tenure, he oversaw an agency with a $50 billion budget, restructured Medicaid to save $4.6 billion in the first year, and improved the program’s ranking to second place nationally for quality. He also secured an $8 billion federal waiver and introduced sepsis protocols credited with saving more than 5,000 lives annually.

In addition to his new role at AssureCare, Dr. Shah is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
