Telugu Community Brings Bathukamma Festival In Glasgow

The Bathukamma festival, unique to Telangana and celebrating the cultural and spiritual traditions of girls, began in Glasgow, Scotland, organized by the local Telugu community. Dr. Mamata Vusikala and Vinila Batula hosted a special programme yesterday.

Women participated by creating beautifully decorated bathukammas and wearing traditional attire, while crowds enjoyed songs and dances. The festival highlighted the unity and cultural pride of Telugus living abroad.

The event was attended by Dr. Puneet Bedi, Vice President, with Dr. Mamata as the chief guest. Organizers plan more extensive celebrations next week, featuring cultural performances and traditional Telangana cuisine.

Participants said the festival’s launch in Glasgow brings joy to the Telangana diaspora and strengthens efforts to preserve their native culture.
