Clifton, Ohio, USA: In a shocking and concerning incident, a Telugu student pursuing a master’s degree in the United States has been arrested for a serious crime. Such incidents are extremely rare among Telugu students abroad.
According to court documents from the U.S., 24-year-old Likhith Nalla, who lives in Clifton, Ohio, was taken into custody after allegedly offering $100 to an undercover police officer pretending to be a 15-year-old minor. The case has stunned many, as crimes of this sensitive nature seldom involve Indian students studying overseas.
Authorities revealed that Likhith allegedly communicated with the officer via his mobile phone during the sting operation. He is facing charges including solicitation of a minor, which involves attempting to pay a child for sexual activity, as well as possession of tools related to criminal conduct.
Currently, Likhith Nalla is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Centre. His total bond has been set at $20,000, requiring $2,000 per count for potential release. If released, he will have to wear an ankle monitor to allow authorities to track his movements continuously. This measure aims to prevent any attempt to flee or contact individuals involved while the investigation is ongoing.
Likhith’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 6. The Telugu community has expressed deep concern and shame over the incident. While occasional issues involving visas or documentation occur among students overseas, being implicated in a criminal case of this severity significantly harms the individual’s reputation and brings distress to their family.
Cases like this underscore the importance of being vigilant, disciplined, and fully aware of local laws. Even a single moment of poor judgment can have life-altering consequences, impacting one’s career, family honour, and personal life.
