US President Donald Trump has declared a 35% tariff on Canadian imports, set to take effect on August 1, with a warning that the rate could rise if Canada strikes back.

He also signaled upcoming blanket tariffs of 15–20% on other major trade partners. Speaking to NBC, Trump noted that not every country would be formally notified, as the tariffs will be widely enforced.

The announcement comes amid a wave of new tariff hikes, including a 50% duty on copper and fresh levies targeting allies such as Japan and South Korea.
