Ahead of talks with Zelenskyy and European leaders, Donald Trump said the Ukrainian president “can end the war almost immediately” but ruled out Ukraine joining NATO.

Instead, Trump’s team proposed NATO-style security guarantees, which Zelenskyy hailed as “historic.”

The Washington meeting will focus on whether Ukraine accepts long-term US-led protections in place of NATO membership while addressing territorial disputes with Russia.

With the war in its fourth year, Trump aims to showcase deal-making before US elections, while Zelenskyy faces pressure to protect Ukraine’s red lines.
