Two earthquakes struck Afghanistan in a short span today (Saturday, March 29), causing panic among residents. The tremors measured 4.7 and 4.3 in magnitude and occurred at 4:51 AM and 5:16 AM local time. Due to the quake, people rushed out of their homes. As of now, no reports of casualties or property damage have been recorded. Notably, a strong earthquake was also felt in Afghanistan on March 28 when Myanmar and Thailand experienced significant tremors.
According to seismologists, earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.3 and 4.7 are classified as moderate. Such tremors can cause considerable damage in areas with weak structures. On March 21, Afghanistan experienced a 4.9 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter located 160 km below the surface, as per the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
Afghanistan has been experiencing frequent tremors in recent weeks. On March 13, another earthquake of magnitude 4 was recorded. These recurring seismic activities highlight the region’s vulnerability to earthquakes, emphasizing the need for preparedness and monitoring.
