U.S. Deports 636 Indian Illegal Immigrants in 2024

Since January this year, the United States has deported 636 Indian illegal immigrants. Among them, 341 were sent back on chartered flights, 55 arrived from Panama on commercial flights, and the remaining 240 returned via various other commercial flights, as stated by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

Responding to TMC MP Yusuf Pathan's question about reports claiming that India agreed to take back 18,000 illegal Indian immigrants from the U.S., the minister clarified that it is the responsibility of the respective countries to take back their illegal immigrants. He emphasized that this is a principle accepted in international relations and not specific to India alone.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department has also shared details of 295 more individuals currently in their custody with Indian authorities. The minister stated that they are verifying whether these individuals are Indian nationals. He assured that the Indian government would provide necessary assistance to those being deported by the U.S.
