The U.S. government, under Donald Trump, has taken strict action against foreign students, canceling hundreds of visas overnight. Reports indicate that students received emails stating that their visas were revoked due to alleged anti-national activities. Those affected, including some Indian students, were instructed to leave the country immediately or face forced deportation.
The U.S. State Department issued warnings via email to foreign students who actively participated in university protests. These warnings were sent by the Bureau of Consular Affairs Visa Office. The emails instructed students to leave voluntarily and even targeted those who shared protest visuals or anti-racial messages on social media, including those who merely liked such posts.
According to U.S. immigration laws, specifically Section 221(g), the affected students’ visas have been canceled. The Student Exchange Visitor Program authorities have been informed, and they may notify the respective universities. Students receiving these warnings were advised to use the CBP Home App to arrange their return to their home countries. This development has sparked concerns over online activity, freedom of expression, and its consequences.
