UAE Grants Ramadan Clemency: Over 500 Indian Prisoners Released

Abu Dhabi: In an effort to strengthen its relations with India, the UAE has taken an unexpected decision by granting mass clemency during the holy month of Ramadan. Over 500 Indian prisoners were among those pardoned and released from jails, according to reports.

During Ramadan, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 1,295 prisoners from various jails. Additionally, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum granted clemency to 1,518 prisoners. UAE Attorney General Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan confirmed that this mass pardon would benefit inmates of various nationalities detained in Dubai’s prisons.

Granting clemency and releasing prisoners during Ramadan is a long-standing tradition in the UAE. However, only inmates with good behavior are selected for release. Additionally, financial assistance will be provided to help them reintegrate into society smoothly.
