University of Chicago Press Celebrates Amitav Ghosh Korean Literary Honor

Chicago, Illinois, USA: Amitav Ghosh will be featured at the University of Chicago’s Chicago Humanities Festival during the Fall 2025 season.

The University of Chicago Press has extended its congratulations to the Indian writer Amitav Ghosh, who recently received the 2025 Park Kyongni Prize. The award recognised him for “broadening the horizons of postcolonial and ecological literature and for giving voice to marginalised subjects, including the natural world itself.”

In a statement shared on social media, the Press said: “Heartfelt congratulations to Amitav Ghosh, named the 2025 winner of the Park Kyongni Prize, often called Korea’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Literature. This honour is given to ‘the most authentic writer of our era who has upheld the core values of literature and left a significant mark on global literary history.’”

Notably, the University of Chicago Press had previously published his non-fiction work, The Great Derangement, back in 2016.
