Sacramento, California, USA: The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that Border Patrol personnel detained 49 undocumented migrants during inspections at immigration checkpoints across California. Among those taken into custody were 30 Indian nationals. Authorities stated that several individuals were operating semi-trailer trucks using commercial driving permits, while others were discovered to be residing in the country without legal authorisation and were subsequently held.
Following a series of recent truck-related incidents in the United States, the Trump administration has halted the approval of work permits and commercial driving licenses for foreign truck operators. Current enforcement efforts are centred on individuals driving heavy commercial vehicles with such licenses. Between November 23 and December 12, Border Protection officers carried out the operation, resulting in the arrest of 42 undocumented migrants who were found driving semi-trucks with commercial licenses. Of these detainees, 30 were from India, while the remaining individuals originated from China, Mexico, Russia, and Turkey.
In addition, seven more undocumented migrants were taken into custody under Operation “Highway Sentinel,” which focuses on commercial trucking firms operating in California. This brought the total number of arrests to 49. Officials said these enforcement measures aim to curb immigration law violations and ensure the safety of the nation’s highways.
