US President Donald Trump, known for his aggressive policies on job cuts and tariffs, has now turned his attention to foreign diplomats. The United States has expelled South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this decision on the social media platform X.
Rubio stated, “South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool is not a welcome person in this great country. He is an opponent of President Trump and a racial divisive politician. There is nothing to discuss with him.” Rasool recently attended an event where he criticized Trump’s administration, which appears to have led to his expulsion. So far, the South African government has not made any statement regarding this decision. Rasool previously served as South Africa's ambassador to the US from 2010 to 2015 and was reappointed in January this year.
Meanwhile, reports recently emerged that the US denied entry to Ahsan Wagan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan. He was deported after US immigration officials detected "controversial remarks" in his visa documents while he was traveling to Los Angeles. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed this and stated that an investigation has been ordered. Wagan may be summoned to Islamabad for further inquiry.
