Vijayawada-Born Professor Honored as SUNY Distinguished Faculty

Vijayawada, AP, India: Ramana Davuluri, a native of Vijayawada, holds a PhD in statistics from the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute.

Stony Brook University’s Professor Ramana Davuluri has been promoted to the prestigious title of State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Faculty by the SUNY Board of Trustees for 2025.

A specialist in Biomedical Informatics, Davuluri is internationally recognised for his work in the computational analysis of non-coding regions of the genome. He is also celebrated for his innovative applications of machine learning in biomedical research.

Davuluri joins seven colleagues who were also elevated to the rank of Distinguished Faculty this year. Stony Brook University President Andrea Goldsmith praised the accomplishment, stating, “This is a proud and defining moment for Stony Brook as we honour our distinguished faculty for their exceptional contributions that continue to propel our university to new heights.” She further added, “These recipients, along with those before them, have significantly advanced our mission of excellence in education, research, healthcare, and service.”

The award recognises Davuluri for attaining national and global prominence in his area of expertise. His groundbreaking research and scholarly achievements were key factors in this recognition.

Davuluri completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at S.R.R. and C.V.R. Government College in Vijayawada, followed by a Master’s and a PhD in statistics from the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute. He joined Stony Brook University in 2020, after teaching at institutions including Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania, and Ohio State University.

Celebrating the promotion on LinkedIn, Davuluri wrote, “I’m thrilled to share that I have been promoted to SUNY Distinguished Professor at Stony Brook University! Excited to be part of the SUNY Distinguished Academy.”
