New York, NY – Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor, at the helm of an Indian cross-party parliamentary delegation visiting the United States, held discussions with key think tanks, academic figures, and media professionals in New York this week. His visit highlighted India’s stance against cross-border terrorism and appealed for international cooperation in promoting peace and safeguarding security.
This diplomatic initiative is part of “Operation Sindoor,” a comprehensive outreach effort launched by India following the deadly terrorist strike on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The mission involves parliamentarians from various political parties, including Tharoor of the Indian National Congress, visiting influential global capitals to showcase a united stand against terrorism.
While addressing members at the Indian consulate, Tharoor characterized India’s recent military actions as “an essential act of self-defense,” commending the armed forces for their strategic precision and discipline. “The moment demanded a forceful yet intelligent response,” he stated. “That’s precisely what India delivered.”
He emphasized the nonpartisan nature of the mission, explaining, “We are not here as representatives of a government, but as voices of the Indian people. Terrorism affects all Indians, regardless of political affiliation. Our unity in grief and determination is absolute.”
Tharoor also reflected on the name “Operation Sindoor,” alluding to the traditional red powder worn by married Hindu women. “It symbolizes the depth of the emotional and cultural wound we carry. But it also speaks to our strength, mourning, and perseverance,” he remarked.
He did not shy away from calling out Pakistan’s continued support of terror outfits, asserting, “India seeks stability—we are a status quo power. Pakistan, however, chooses the path of provocation. The world must recognize and address this ongoing threat.”
His speech received strong support from the gathering, which included members of the Indian diaspora, diplomats, business figures, and civil society leaders. Tharoor encouraged them to help amplify India’s narrative internationally. “You are key to confronting misinformation and influencing global discourse,” he said.
This U.S. visit is part of a broader diplomatic effort, with other Indian delegations heading to the U.K., Japan, and other crucial partner nations. Parallel delegations led by leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad and Supriya Sule are contributing to the synchronized campaign.
Operation Sindoor represents a significant moment of political unity in India, as leaders from across the spectrum come together to present a consolidated position on the international front. Dr. Tharoor’s remarks encapsulated this harmony, combining diplomatic rigor with heartfelt emotion, echoing the urgency of the hour and the call for a united global response.
