Why Was Cricket Canada Suspended and Now Back in Safe Sport Program?

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: Less than a week after being suspended from the Canadian Safe Sport Program (CSSP), Cricket Canada has complied with the necessary obligations, prompting the organization to lift the suspension. The cricketing body fulfilled requirements that included completing the mandatory e-learning module and signing the consent form, a crucial part of the participation agreement.

Megan Cummins, Manager of Corporate Communications at the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), confirmed that Cricket Canada’s contract to participate in the CSSP has officially been reinstated as of October 17.

“This reinstatement comes after Cricket Canada successfully completed the required e-learning module and consent form, fulfilling the essential conditions under the CSSP adoption agreement,” Cummins stated.

The return to the program ensures that individuals registered as CSSP participants through Cricket Canada can now access the CSSP reporting process and the protections provided under the program.

The initial suspension, announced on October 14, 2025, resulted from Cricket Canada not meeting its obligations for participant e-learning and consent forms as stipulated in the CSSP adoption contract. The CCES acknowledged the organisation’s prompt and coordinated efforts to resolve the issue.

Organisations that participate in the CSSP carry important responsibilities to maintain the program’s effectiveness and foster a safe sporting environment. A key aspect of this commitment is ensuring all participants complete the 40-minute e-learning module and sign the consent form, steps critical to understanding their rights and responsibilities under the CSSP framework.
