Canadian authorities have confirmed that the death of a 19-year-old Indian-origin woman, whose body was discovered inside a Walmart bakery oven last month, involved no foul play.
Gursimran Kaur was found deceased in a walk-in oven at the Walmart located on 6990 Mumford Road on the evening of October 19. Halifax Regional Police responded to a sudden death report and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Halifax Regional Police reported on Facebook that around 9:30 pm, officers responded to a call regarding a sudden death at Walmart located at 6990 Mumford Road. A 19-year-old female employee was discovered deceased inside a large walk-in oven in the bakery section of the store."
Following a detailed investigation, police determined that the death was not suspicious and found no evidence of foul play. "Investigators have updated the family on the findings and extended their condolences. Our thoughts remain with them during this challenging time," the police statement added.
The Maritime Sikh Society has stepped in to provide psychological counseling for those impacted by the tragedy. They have also organized a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and facilitate travel for Kaur’s family members from India to attend the last rites.
According to the GoFundMe page, Kaur had moved to Canada with aspirations of building a better future. She had been working at Walmart alongside her mother for the past two years. On the evening of the incident, her mother reportedly tried to locate her after an hour of being unable to reach her phone.
