New York, USA: Dr. Ashwin Vasan, former NYC Health Commissioner and a leading Indian-American public health expert, has been appointed as a Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In this role, he will teach health policy, mentor students, and lead a course on "Health Policy and Leadership."
Vasan, an alumnus of Harvard, expressed his excitement on LinkedIn, highlighting his commitment to shaping future public health leaders. During his tenure as NYC Health Commissioner (2022–2024), he played a key role in initiatives related to mental health reform, reproductive health, and tackling public health crises like COVID-19 and mpox.
A seasoned public health professional, Vasan has worked on global health challenges, including HIV/AIDS treatment programs with WHO and Partners In Health. He is also a faculty member at Columbia University and a practicing primary care physician.
Alongside him, former U.S. Housing Secretary Marcia Fudge has also been appointed as a Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow at Harvard.
